IMB Comm Fail(000000:Conn=113)
When an NEC projector displays IMB Comm Fail(000000:Conn=113) message it means that the projector can no longer communicate with the IMB or IMS type server. It is normal for this message to appear when the IMB server is shutdown or rebooting. Simply put, if the server is shutdown or in the process of rebooting, it cannot communicate with the projector. When the projector realizes that it is not getting communication back from the server, it displays this message.
If this message appears during operation, it is something requiring more attention. While this can be an indication of a server failure, it more likely is an indication that the IMB server needs to be reseated in its card slot. The type of connector on the IMB board is referred to as a "self wiping" connector. That is to say, whenever the board is inserted into the socket, the friction of the insertion slightly burnishes (cleans) the contacts. Since in normal use the IMB is not removed the contacts will sometimes build up oxidation resulting in intermittent contact between the projector and server. Reseating the board removes the oxidation.
It should be noted that opening the projector and card cage to get to the IMB will trip several security sensors on the projector and break the security marriage. Reseating of the boards should only be done by a trained person with knowledge of the security protocols and reset codes. Failure to follow this procedure will result in the projector being unable to show protected content until the proper security protocols and resets are done.
