Interfacing the DCDC Satellite Delivery System with the a TMS

Using the Deluxe DCDC Satellite Delivery System with the GDC TMS

Interfacing the Deluxe DCDC (Kencast) satellite delivery system with the GDC TMS system is a largely undocumented affair.  Calls to either vendor tell you that you are pretty much on your own.

The DCDC system is installed by contractors of Deluxe's choosing.  During the initial ordering the venue will be asked to provide the following:

1.  An IP address, subnet, and gateway for the management network of the DCDC system.
2,  The assigned IP address, subnet, and gateway for the management network of the TMS system.
3.  The assigned IP address and subnet for the media network on the TMS system
4.  The address to be assigned to the media network on the DCDC system.

In our example, below, the media network has been assigned the range of 192.168.100.0/24

The server's eth0 NIC has been setup with the following IP configuration:

IP Address:                         192.168.100.50
Subnet Mask:                    255.255.255.0
Static Routes:                    N/A
From data gathered earlier in the planning process, it is our understanding that a GDC TMS with the following configuration is setup at this site:
TMS Company:                 GDC
TMS Type:                           GDC TMS
TMS IP Address 1:            192.168.100.226
TMS IP Address 2:            N/A
Ingest Protocol: FTP PULL

At this point, from the TMS, you should be able to ping the Kencast server (DCDC).  In the example above, it would be 192.168.100.50.  At this point, we advise calling the DCDC NOC and confirming that they can ping the TMS server and, in the same call, get the USERNAME and PASSWORD to log the TMS system into the Kencast.

Once the USERNAME and PASSWORD have been obtained, go into the TMS and go to the following menus:  FILE->INGEST DCP/KDM.  Do not attempt to use INGEST DCP FROM SATELLITE.  While this might be what one would expect, it is for downloading directly from a satellite feed and not going through a proxy such as Deluxe.


Clicking on the INGEST DCP/KDM produces the following window:

By default, this window opens with the LOCAL tab selected.  Select the FTP tab.

This will open up a window where you can see the FTP connections available to this TMS.  This will generally be empty until you populate it with the satellite server.  Click on ADD to add the DCDC system.

Enter the satellite server credentials that were previously given to you and then hit TEST.  The name field can be anything you want to call the DCDC system.

If all has gone properly, you should see:

On the TMS, under TOOLS->PREFERENCES->CONTENT WATCHER
  1. Enable Content Watch
  2. Check DO NOT REINGEST....DCPS TO MEMORIZE - Adjust the number to your preference.  The default is for a fairly large complex.  A large number will slow down the TMS.
  3. ADD the IP address and credentials for the DCDC server
  4. Click OK
At this point, return back to the DCP/KDM import screen and let the TMS sync up with the Kencast.
